Why does the browser alert "Request has failed whilst trying to connect to the server, please try again later" display if a content managed web page is left open for an extended period of time, and then is used again?

Thread On a content managed web page that is left open for an extended period of time (such as an hour or more), if the user then tries to use in page elements still displayed, such as a product search, then the alert box may display with the error "Request has failed whilst trying to connect to the server, please try again later". What may be causing this?
