Unable to update settings of an adaptor because of the error "An Error Has Occurred Whilst trying to Save Credentials. Attempt to write a read-only database"

Thread After migrating the data of the Connector across computers to a Windows 2012 server, after installing the Connector application which reads from the migrated connector files, then trying to update the setting of an adaptor, the error dialog appears with the error
"An error has occurred whilst trying to save the credentials. Technical details: The SQL query could not be successfully executed Attempt to write a read-only database. Attempt to write a readonly database."

Why cannot the adaptor settings be updated?
