Why are products are still displaying in search listings when the user is assigned to an Inventory Permission Role that does not allow the products to be viewed?

An issue was reported where a user was performing a product search, and the search would display products that the user should not be able to see, since they were assigned to an inventory permissions role that denied the user viewing the shown products. The question is why are the products still displaying?
